After Local Fundraising Effort, Guatemala Clinic Opens for Business

The Good Neighbors Group hosted a quarter auction in Severna Park to raise funds for the medical clinic.

For those of you who participated in the Good Neighbors Group fundraising endeavor for a medical clinic in Guatemala there is good news—the clinic is open for business.

Good Neighbors Group founder Julie Shay organized a quarter auction fundraiser for the clinic in April, after a close friend of hers alerted her to the need for a medical clinic in Nueva San Jose, Guatemala. The clinic will serve 10,000 people.

Shay's friend Ellen Finn, who lives Honduras, said the clinic opened last week. While some improvements still need to be made, the clinic is currently providing medical assistance to those who need it.

The quarter auction held on April 19 in Severna Park, raised more than $5,000 and was used to help build the clinic's roof

"A huge thank you to all of you for your support," Finn said in an email. "It's been a long journey and still a ways to go to finish and pay the bills but we're getting there."
