Take Your Dog for a Swim to Benefit SPCC

The (SPCC) will not be hosting humans at the main pool on Aug. 24, but all canines are invited for the center's first Doggie Swim-A-Thon.

The SPCC will be closing the pools to swimmers for its annual maintenance on the afternoon of Aug. 24. However, before it is completely drained, 24 "lucky" dogs will have the chance to take a swim in the main pool.

This unique event is scheduled from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and is a fundraiser to help raise money for new boilers for the center's pool.  

It will cost $50,000 to replace the section of the boilers that heat the air in the center's pool area, said Marion Wear, assistant director at SPCC.

"The evening will be lots of fun for doggies and humans alike," she said.

Tickets are $5 and are available at the community center or at the door on the night.

Registration is $50 per dog and includes admission of the whole human family to the event.

Upon registration, participants will be given a pledge sheet to help in collecting pledges.

Wear said sponsorship opportunities beginning at $50 also are available for local pet shops, dog-related businesses and pet lovers.

The community is invited and tickets will be available at the front desk at SPCC.
