Leslie grew up in Severna Park and is a graduate of Severna Park High School. Now raising her family here in town, Leslie's children are second generation " Severna Parkers." The teens attend the same schools that Leslie attended in her youth, and enjoy a similar experience growing up crabbing and boating on the local rivers and swimming in the community pools.
Leslie began her journalism career locally at Anne Arundel Community College where she was an on-campus roving reporter for the school newspaper, while taking her first journalism class. She went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in communications from Towson University.
Most recently, Leslie served as the community news editor with The Capital newspaper, as well as the Severna Park columnist published each Thursday. Before joining Patch in September 2010, Leslie's weekly Severna Park column was followed by many loyal readers each week for seven years.
Leslie was honored to be one of the recipients of the YWCA TWIN Award in June 2010 recognizing women in business and industry who have made a difference in the workplace.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.
This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
Are you registered with a certain party?
Over the years, I've been registered as an Independent, Democrat and Republican. I vote for who I think will do the best job once in office.
Religion
I'm a believer. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Smile and offer a kind word often. Help a senior citizen. That's part of what being a Christian is to me.

Local Hot-Button Issues
From the various conversations, interviews and observations while working as a journalist and as a resident, future residential and retail development and the increase in local traffic that comes with it is a concern.
Home prices/resale value. Preserving open space. The health of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Keeping our teens healthy and off of drugs and alcohol is a concern of many parents which has prompted the creation of new outreach efforts at the schools and churches.
The revitalization of the high school and the options put forth in the Feasibility Study. The once looming possibility of redistricting some elementary schools. Reviving the economy in our commercial areas. Helping our local businesses thrive in a struggling economy.

I'm hoping the Severna Park Patch will help engage people and give residents a place to share views, thoughts and ideas; and be a forum for community discussion.
This site is about you and for you, so please add a comment, ask a question or offer a story or photo to share with the rest of Severna Park. Here at Patch, we want your story ideas. Let us know if there is an event in your community that you would like covered by Patch and we'll be there!
