St. Martin’s-in-the-Field Day School Collecting Soccer Equipment for Haiti

The Severna Park school has red bins placed throughout the community to collect items and welcomes donations from area organizations.

student-athletes are collecting new and used cleats and other soccer equipment for children in Haiti. Large red bins, generously donated by in Severna Park, have been labeled "HOPE 4 HAITI" and placed at the , , and various other points in the area.

“This is an opportunity for children in our local community to make a positive impact in our global community,” said Ed Warfield, French teacher and sports coach at St. Martin’s-in-the-Field.

“We are accepting individual and team donations of all sizes of used and new soccer cleats, shin guards, and soccer balls. Soccer balls must be deflated prior to shipping. Full team uniform donations are desirable. So, if your team is purchasing new uniforms, please donate the ones that you are replacing," said Warfield.

The collected soccer equipment will be delivered via the shipping and distribution infrastructure established by St. Martin’s-in-the-Field Church and School, which has a long-standing connection to Haiti.

St. Martin’s-in-the-Field has a sister-school relationship with La Resurrection in Gros Morne. Additionally, the school on Benfield Road in Severna Park has hosted Les Petits Chanteurs, the renowned children’s choir based at Holy Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Port-au-Prince.

The school has a competitive yet inclusive middle school sports program and hosts a weekly Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) huddle, the only such middle school program in the county.

“We will send bins to other FCA high schools and to the FCA huddle at the University of Maryland,” says FCA huddle leader and St. Martin’s in-the-Field English teacher, Pastor Andy Smith. “It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to initiate this kind of mission and lead older students.”
