Severna Park Senior Awarded Scholarship

Alexis Jeter a 2012 graduate of was among two other Anne Arundel County high school seniors who received a $4,000 college scholarship from Force 3, headquartered in Crofton.

The scholarship awards were based on academic achievements, community service and educational goals, according to a news announcement.

Also awarded scholarships are Erika Heffernan from Calvary Baptist Church Academy and Chakiera Shields from North County High School. 

The scholarship was created to help those who need it most and are the most deserving, and is only offered to students from Anne Arundel County High Schools who plan to attend an accredited college to pursue a technical degree, according to the news announcement.

To apply, students were required to write an essay describing their educational and career goals and how they planned to meet these, as well as their participation in community service.

“Erika, Chakiera and Alexis all have great potential to make big contributions in the technology and engineering sectors,” said Vice Chairman and co-founder, Jim Bird in the news announcement. “We’re excited to help them further their educations and we look forward to seeing them succeed in their professional careers.”

According to the announcement, Jeter will be attending Penn State University Park in the College of Engineering. She was a National Merit Commended Ssudent, Honor Roll student, AP Scholar, and a proficient Java programmer.

This is the sixth year that Force 3 has awarded its college scholarships, giving out a total of 15 scholarships thus far, according to the announcement.
