Get Ready for Rehabilitation Project on Riggs Avenue

Parking restrictions and work near driveways will occur during the project starting at the end of the month.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works announced in a press release that Riggs Avenue in Severna Park has been selected for rehabilitation consisting of milling, patching, and resurfacing. To include, replacing deficient sections of the existing concrete sidewalk, curb/gutter, and modifying handicap ramps.

The news announcement states that the limits of construction will be from Evergreen Road to Baltimore/Annapolis Boulevard (Route 648) weather permitting, beginning on or about Thursday (July 28).

"To ensure that this project proceeds in a timely and safe manner, it is important that all vehicles be removed from the work areas. This may be an inconvenience to customers and businesses while construction is in progress, however, cooperation between the contractor, customers, and businesses will be the key to success."

According to the press release, the contractor, Reliable Contracting, will post No Parking signs along the edge of the road to indicate the work zone. These signs will announce the anticipated dates the contractor plans to work in this area.

Vehicles cannot be parked in the posted areas between the posted dates or they will be towed at the owner’s expense

If driveway repairs become necessary, the contractor will repair one half of the driveway at a time, so that normal business traffic will not be interrupted.

The Department of Public Works asks all vehicles to avoid the areas of your driveway apron that the contractor has scheduled repairs.  When the freshly poured concrete has been placed in your driveway area, this section will remain unavailable for 72 hours while the concrete hardens.

Work activity will take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. During construction, you may also encounter a rougher road surface.  Please use caution when driving in these areas.

To provide thru traffic during actual construction, work will be performed on one side of the street at a time.  Although there may be temporary lane shifts associated with the road reconstruction, the road will remain open for traffic during construction. Please pay particular attention to equipment, signs and flag persons, stated the news announcement.

As is normal operation procedure, the Anne Arundel County Fire and Police Departments will be notified.  The Board of Education, Trash Company and the Postal Service will also be alerted to the construction.

Reliable Contracting Co. Inc. has been contracted to perform this work.  If you have any questions or concerns during this project, please contact the project superintendent, Larry Oates at 410- 987-0313.

The county has retained Century Engineering to manage the construction aspects of the project. Wayne Menchey, Construction Supervisor, will closely monitor all aspects of the project. Menchey can be reached at 410-222-4349 to discuss any concerns you may have about the construction activities.
