Updated: Two Pedestrians Struck on Ritchie Highway Across from Earleigh Heights Fire Station

Officials reported Wednesday morning on the condition of Sean Snyder, 19, of Severna Park and a 17-year-old girl from Pasadena.

Updated 12:15 p.m. July 13—Police released information that Sean Snyder, 19, of Severna Park is listed in serious, but stable condition, and a 17-year-old girl from Pasadena is listed in critical condition.

The teens were struck by a vehicle in the 100 block of Ritchie Highway near the Tuesday night, according to the fire department.

The incident occurred around 8:43 p.m. Tuesday and a state police helicopter flew the patients to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, said Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Chief Michael Cox.

An Arnold man was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on Ritchie Highway near Earleigh Heights Road when two pedestrians tried to cross—reportedly not using the crosswalk and wearing dark clothing, according to a release from police.

"There is no indication that the driver left the scene and no indication that any charges are pending against the driver," said Justin Mulcahy, spokesman for Anne Arundel County Police in an email.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash on the part of the driver, according to the police release.

(Original post) Two pedestrians were struck Tuesday evening as they crossed the southbound lanes of Ritchie Highway, near the in Severna Park, where a was in progress.

Both sides of Ritchie Highway were shut down at West Earleigh Heights Road as the fire department worked the scene. Two helicopters landed on the southbound side of the closed highway to transport the injured people to an area hospital.

Onlookers at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company carnival gathered on the side of the highway in front of the fire station, while a small group of young people sat in the median strip talking to a firefighter.
