Severna Park Resident to Chronicle Road2Recovery 9/11 Bike Tour

Karey Harris raised enough money to ride in the charity event that raises funds for wounded veterans. She will dispatch her journey to Patch starting this weekend.

Severna Park Patch featured  on Aug. 25 when she was just shy of meeting her fundraising goal of $1,000 needed to register for the 500-mile Ride2Recovery tour that will raise funds for wounded veterans.

Harris met her goal, thanks to the help of Patch readers who donated $470 toward her effort after reading the story. The ride, in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, will be shared with Patch through cell phone dispatches from Harris along the route that visits all three 9/11 crash sites.

Her experience will be shared with 350 other cyclists beginning with a wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday morning at Fire Station 10, home to the FDNY Memorial Wall.

The Road2Recovery ride will begin on Sunday morning from Liberty Park, NJ, across the Hudson River from Manhattan and will continue through historic Pennsylvania via Philadelphia, Lancaster, Gettysburg, and Bedford, to the Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville, PA. The tour will end on Sept. 18 at the Pentagon Memorial in Washington, DC.

"Local businesses, complete strangers, family and friends are all helping out!," Harris wrote in an email to Patch. "It's cool to see people pool their resources to help for a good cause. This isn't about me, this is about R2R and what they do to help our soldiers."
