Road Work to Begin on Veterans Highway

A turning lane will be installed on Veterans Highway, north of Benfield Boulevard.

Road Work is slated to begin on Veterans Highway just north of Benfield Boulevard as crews start to install a left turn lane.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) didn’t give an exact starting date, but said work will begin around the last week of July. According to a release, contractors will remove the existing median on the road, install full depth paving, and implement roadway striping to establish an exclusive left turn lane.

DPW said the new turn lane would provide protection, eliminate congestion and improve traffic conditions. Field observations have shown that drivers turning left into the Dunkin Donuts and Maritime Carwash are stacking in through the travel lanes, which creates backups and delays along Veterans Highway.

The project should take about two weeks to complete. The concrete median will be removed at night and the paving and striping will occur during the day. Contractors are scheduled to do the median work between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. and the paving between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Drivers are asked to use caution when driving in the area.
