The No. 1-seeded Falcons fell to Leonardtown 7-6 Monday night in Severna Park.
The top ranked Severna Park softball team ended its postseason play Monday night in the second round of the state tournament. The No. 1-seeded Falcons fell to Leonardtown 7-6 Monday night in Severna Park. After earning a first-round bye, Severna Park entered its first game of the postseason on Monday looking to make a run to the state final, but were upset by No. 8 Leonardtown. Despite a successful season, the Severna Park softball team’s year ended with two losses. In addition to the loss to Leonardtown, the Falcons fell to Northeast High 5-6 in the county championship on May 8.

After seven seasons, head lacrosse coach Larry Kramer announced his resignation on Friday in an email to parents.
Severna Park High School boys lacrosse head coach Larry Kramer announced his resignation on Friday in an email to parents of lacrosse players after a season tinged with some controversy. Kramer has been with Severna Park for seven seasons during which the team won two state titles. In 2010, he led the team to a perfect 20-0 season and a victory over Wootton High in the 4A/3A state final. In his email, Kramer said it was something he'd been considering for a while. “I regret that my heart is telling me it is time to move on,” Kramer wrote. “I have resigned as head coach of the Severna Park boys’ lacrosse team today May 10, 2013. The Severna Park boys lacrosse team fell to Broadneck High School, 10-5.
The Severna Park girls lacrosse team defeated Chesapeake High on Wednesday night in the first round of the class 4A girls lacrosse playoffs. With the 17-5 victory, the Falcons will move onto the second round where they will face rival Broadneck on Friday night at the Bruins' home field in Annapolis. During the regular season, Severna Park (No. 5) fell to Broadneck (No. 4) in a close game of 9-8. Friday night’s contest should be a heated rematch between the rival schools. While the girls were successful in postseason play, the Severna Park boys lacrosse team’s season came to an end Wednesday night falling to Broadneck 10-5.

Postseason play for Severna Park baseball and softball will kickoff this week with the baseball team set to faceoff against rival Broadneck High School on Friday. The Falcon baseball team earned a No. 8 seed in the east region of the Class 4A state baseball playoffs and will host No. 9 Broadneck High School in the first round on Friday. On May 2, the baseball team defeated Broadneck 5-0. The winner of the Severna Park – Broadneck matchup will go on to face the No. 1 seed North Point on Monday. The Severna Park softball team earned a No. 1 seed in the east region of the Class 4A state softball playoffs and received a first round bye. The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday and four county schools were included in the top 2,000.
Newsweek released a ranking of top high schools in the country on Monday but Severna Park High was not one of the four county schools ranked. Newsweek ranked three high schools in Anne Arundel County among the top 1,000 in the country, and a fourth among the top 2,000. Despite recent rankings in other polls this year, Severna Park High was not on the Newsweek list. Earlier this year, Severna Park High received the second-highest marks of Anne Arundel County Schools in a Washington Post ranking of schools across the country. The school also received high marks in a national survey of the best high schools by US News. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools, with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. …

Students in Anne Arundel County can be prohibited from prom and graduation activities if found in violation of the system's drug and alcohol policy.
Superintendent Kevin Maxwell cautioned students and parents Wednesday about the alcohol and drug policy for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, heading into graduation season. In a letter to parents of soon-to-be graduates, Maxwell reminded families that students can be prohibited from school events if found possessing, consuming or distributing alcohol and drugs, even off of school property. "I do not want to see what should be a great time in the life of graduating seniors marred by immature and unwise decisions," Maxwell said in the letter. "More importantly, I don’t want to see any of our students engage in behavior that could have consequences for themselves and others." Nobody has said stopping by this house was a good idea. They made a bad choice and expected to be punished. The issue is the punishment is completely out of line with anything ever handed down in the past. The issue is a lacrosse player at Arundel High School received the exact same citation and only received a 3 game suspension.
