Victoria's Fancy Foods Announces Chocolate Olympics Winners

Michelle Lyon's chocolate caramel cheesecake received a gold medal in the fourth annual Chocolate Olympics.

After crafting recipes and carefully preparing their selected desserts, contestants for the fourth annual Chocolate Olympics at Victoria's Fancy Foods offered up their samples and a winner was crowned. The winner and gold medal recipient of this year's Chocolate Olympics is Michelle Lyon, who made a chocolate caramel cheesecake. The event featured nine contestants who each made a chocolate treat. Those who attended the event were given the opportunity to try the desserts and then vote for their favorite. Art Allison received a silver medal for his sacher cake trifle and Tara Benson won bronze with her flourless chocolate cake. Benson also won honorable mention for best presentation. Messages of Love

Nineteenth-century love letters and modern sweet tweets prove that communication for couples is timeless.

By Allison Goldstein, Capital News Service When U.S. Navy Surgeon David Shelton Edwards was serving at the Washington Navy Yard in the late 1830s, he kept the spark in his marriage alive by writing eight love letters home to his wife, Harriet Eliza Henry. "Your letters are a sweet cordial to this loving heart of yours, for there can be no substitute for them until I have your own dear self here," Edwards wrote in a July 1835 note to Henry. Over a 13-year span from 1835 to 1848 working in Washington, Pensacola Navy Yard, FL, and aboard several Mexican-American War naval vessels, Edwards wrote his “dearest Eliza” more than 40 notes now part of the National Postal Museum’s collection of thousands of letters in Washington. Victoria's Fancy Foods Hosts Chocolate Olympics Saturday

The annual event will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday.

Chocolate lovers get ready—Victoria's Fancy Foods will host its annual Chocolate Olympics on Saturday. The event features nine different contestants who will each make a chocolate treat. Those who attend the event are given the opportunity to try the desserts and then vote for their favorite. The contestant with the most votes will be crowned the winner. This is the fourth annual Chocolate Olympics, and Victoria's Fancy Foods owner Victoria Stagmer told Patch the event is always popular. “It’s fun just because of the uniqueness of it,” Stagmer told Patch in January. “In the middle of the winter there is nothing to do and everybody has cabin fever. Victoria’s Fancy Food Announces Chocolate Olympic Contestants

The annual chocolate contest will be held on Feb. 9.

Victoria’s Fancy Foods has announced its contestants for the upcoming Chocolate Olympics. The fourth annual Chocolate Olympics, traditionally held the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, will take place on Feb. 9. On Tuesday, owner Victoria Stagmer released the names of the contestants. Each contestant is assigned a country to represent for the event; however, Stagmer said the chocolate dessert they create doesn’t have to be associated with that country. The official contestants for the Fourth Annual Chocolate Olympics are as follows: The contestants all volunteered for the endeavor and were picked on a first-come, first-serve basis. The annual chocolate competition will be held on Feb. 9.

Calling all chocolate makers, lovers and enthusiasts. Victoria’s Fancy Foods is seeking constants for its annual Chocolate Olympics. The fourth annual Chocolate Olympics, held the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, will take place on Feb. 9 and owner Victoria Stagmer is looking for contestants willing to cook up their favorite chocolate recipes. “The whole thing is just an amazing amount of fun and the whole room is full of chocolate,” Stagmer said. For the contest, Stagmer is looking for eight amateur chefs willing to cook up a chocolate dessert, give out their recipe and provide 100 samples.
