A Severna Park resident in the Westridge community said her home was broken into Monday evening.

A home in the Westridge community in Severna Park was broken into on Monday night, according to police. Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said officers responded to a reported burglary at a home in the Westridge community at 8:09 p.m. on Monday. Mulcahy said that at this time it is unclear if the home was secured or if there was a forced entry. The resident of the home, who asked to remain anonymous, told Patch in an email that the suspect or suspects gained entry through an “unlocked or not completely locked” second-story window. “Please urge your readers to lock all windows on all floors,” the resident wrote in an email. “I’d like to prevent this from happening to anyone enjoying the cooler weather and leaving any …

On 09/25/12 and 12/04/12 My home was broken into. Police didn't seem to care. Never got back to me. Useless. Jewelry was stolen, nothing else to pawn. Heard it was 2 boys from the "Cape". Isn't that when kids get off the bus and have nothing else to do besides sit on the side of…   more ›

Volleyball: Falcons Eyeing Undefeated Season

The Severna Park High volleyball team is off to a 5-0 start and looking to make a playoff run.

When the members of this year’s varsity volleyball team were freshmen, they knew their senior year was going to be their year. Now that senior year has arrived, and the Severna Park High School varsity volleyball team sits at 5-0 and is eyeing an undefeated season and a state title run. “I would just say that together we are all more experienced; we know each other very well. We are more determined,” said senior captain Adriana Castille. “Ever since freshman year we knew we were going to be amazing senior year, so we are working really hard now.” Last year’s team, which did not include any seniors, finished at 9-6. Severna Park Elementary Celebrates 75 Years in Style

A two-day celebration for alumni, community members and current students is being held to commemorate the school's history.

This year, Severna Park Elementary School will celebrate its 75th year in the building and the 160th year on the property—but the whole celebration was almost thrown out with the trash. “They were cleaning out closets in the school and they found two old boxes,” said Margaret Thompson Mardiros, an alumna of Severna Park Elementary. “The boxes were going to be discarded but someone took them to go through them and they found all kinds of old pictures, and essays written by fifth-graders from years before. They found all kinds of artifacts too and that’s what triggered all this.” The historical find provided the inspiration for a two-day celebration on Oct. 7-8 where the Severna Park Elementary community will have an opportunity to celebrate…
