The Severna Park volleyball team defeated South River in four sets and advanced to the region championship.
When the Severna Park volleyball team entered this season, the girls had one goal in mind: a state title. The Falcons moved one step closer to that goal Wednesday night when they defeated South River in four sets—25-17, 24-26, 25-18, 25-18—to advance to the region championship game. After falling to South River in four sets during the regular season, the playoff matchup certainly wasn’t a given for the Falcons. The Severna Park volleyball team defeated Broadneck in four games Tuesday to improve to 9-0 on the season.
Senior Kim Bell has been on the Severna Park volleyball team for four years but had never beaten rival Broadneck. That all changed on Tuesday night. Thanks to some solid defense, 10 kills from senior Mel Kapelewski, and 14 digs from sophomore Sophie Hoekstra, the Severna Park volleyball team (9-0) defeated Broadneck (4-3) in four games Tuesday night 25-11,17-25, 25-14, 25-23. “It is so great. We have been waiting for this since our freshman year,” Bell said. “I have never beaten Broadneck and I have been on this team for four years. I am so happy.” Severna Park got off to a quick start and easily defeated the Bruins 25-11 in the first game—led by three Kapelewski kills. The Severna Park High volleyball team is off to a 5-0 start and looking to make a playoff run.
When the members of this year’s varsity volleyball team were freshmen, they knew their senior year was going to be their year. Now that senior year has arrived, and the Severna Park High School varsity volleyball team sits at 5-0 and is eyeing an undefeated season and a state title run. “I would just say that together we are all more experienced; we know each other very well. We are more determined,” said senior captain Adriana Castille. “Ever since freshman year we knew we were going to be amazing senior year, so we are working really hard now.” Last year’s team, which did not include any seniors, finished at 9-6. This year, with the return of three-time state champion coach Tim Dunbar, the team is undefeated and looking to make a run. “…
