James Arthur Zito, the 22-year-old Millersville man who was accused of stabbing his mother in July 2012, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis Tuesday morning. The trial for James Arthur Zito, a 22-year-old Millersville man who allegedly stabbed his mother in July 2012 and then fled the home, has been rescheduled for March 14. Zito's criminal trial in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis was originally scheduled to take place on Jan. 22. On July 30, police responded to a family violence call in the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way where a 54-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds. According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that Zito suddenly became violent for unknown reasons and restrained two family members inside the home before later stabbing his mother multiple times in the upper body. A tip from a citizen brought the Anne Arundel County police to the Glen Burnie Mall area where James Zito was apprehended.
James Arthur Zito, 21, who allegedly stabbed his mother and then fled their home in Millersville on Monday night, was apprehended by police at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, according to a press release. Anne Arundel County police officers took Zito into custody near the Glen Burnie Mall after receiving a tip from a citizen. Zito was then taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, according to the press release. UPDATE (10:35 a.m. Tuesday) — A 21-year-old man, James Arthur Zito, allegedly stabbed his mother and then fled their home on Monday night in the Shipley's Choice community in Millersville, according to a press release. Police responded to a family violence call at about 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way where a 54-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police issued a community alert at about 11:30 p.m. Monday night warning the community and surrounding area to lock their doors and to turn on exterior lights, according to the release.
