Jack Treanor is a senior defensive tackle for the Severn School's football team.

Patch stopped by Severn School’s football practice and talked to senior defensive tackle Jack Treanor about football, school and his plans for the future. Severna Park Patch: What is your fondest Severn football memory? Jack Treanor: Probably last year being able to work behind our starting left tackle Jack Cauley. He taught me everything he knew. I play left tackle this year, he was my mentor and teacher. I have used a lot of stuff he taught me last year and this year. Severna Park Patch: What is your favorite professional football team? Who is your favorite player and why? Treanor: The Baltimore Ravens and I idolize Haloti Ngata. He is a force on the defensive line and he is huge. He is fun to watch. Severna Park Patch: What is your fondest Severn football memory? David Watt: I have to say my favorite football memory was making the state championships last year. Although we didn’t win, it was the biggest deal in my football career and I was so pumped. We worked hard to achieve a winning season and we were ready to go. Football: Severn Gunning For State Championships

After losing in the MIAA C Conference Championship last year, the Severn Football team is looking to head back to the title game.

After going 8-3 last season and making an appearance in the MIAA C Conference Championship game, the Severn football team is looking to finish this season with a victory. “We absolutely want to win this year,” said senior tight end Mike Dennin. “It was a really tough loss last year. But there is no looking back. You have to move forward and focus on the year coming up. We are going to build off that championship run we had last year, but this time we are going to finish it up and win.” Despite defeating St. Francis 33-0 during the regular season last year, the Admirals were unable to top them during the championship game. Environmental Center Under Way at Severn School

Construction has started on an Environmental Center at the Severna Park school.

A message from Headmaster Doug Lagarde on Severn School's website announces the beginning of Phase One—removing invasive greenery—on July 16 in establishing an Environmental Center for the school. The project is the result of planning for many years by the faculty, board of trustees, outside experts and friends of the school, Lagarde wrote. Here is an excerpt from the message: "Since its founding in 1914, Severn School has derived benefit and identity from the Severn River. As the School nears its first century of success and looks to the future, our campus offers an opportunity, if not a responsibility, to challenge its community to examine, to debate, and to discuss issues of ecological preservation as it relates to both the Severn River…

Severn School Receives $2 Million Endowment Grant

The private Severna Park school is recognized with a grant from the Malone Family Foundation.

Severn School in Severna Park is the recipient of a $2 million endowment grant from the Malone Family Foundation to provide scholarships for gifted students with financial need.   The Malone Family Foundation invites select schools to apply for this endowment. After an initial screening process, Severn was selected to enter the semifinalist stage of the grant-making process, according to a Severn School news announcement. A representative from the Malone Foundation visited the school in April. The school was notified of the grant on May 11. The goal of the Malone Family Foundation is to provide an outstanding education to every young student who is among the top 5 percent of his or her class. Severn School Exceeds Goal For Red Cross Blood Drive

Recruiting effort led by a student and school staff brought in a record number of students to the Red Cross Blood Drive.

According to the Red Cross, students at Severna Park’s Severn School may have helped save the lives of 132 patients in area hospitals by turning out in record numbers to donate blood earlier this month. Chloe Fu, a junior at the school, was inspired to help organize the blood drive when she attended an American Red Cross fundraising dinner at O’Learys Seafood Restaurant in September.  “I knew I wanted to do something to help,” she said.  Fu worked with school staff to recruit 62 students who showed up to give the gift of life, according to a press release. Of those attendees, 44 were able to donate blood.  “The students were amazing ambassadors of life-saving, who showed up in their numbers to make a difference,” said American Red Cross …
