POLL: Are You For Once-A-Week Trash Pickup?
With cost savings and recycling in mind, the county is cutting back to once-a-week trash collection starting in June.
If you're throwing a party or expect to have a little more trash due to company coming, you may have to consider how to manage it all within the new once-a-week collection program starting in June. County Executive John R. Leopold proposed the initiative last January in response to the Recycling Advisory Committee findings suggesting once-a-week trash collection would discourage residents from mixing recyclables with their trash and would save on contracting services for pickup. Another factor considered was a decrease in neighborhood truck traffic and air emissions and increased recycling in schools. I hardly have one trash can full a week and that is just 1 time a week, Now I have 3 recycle bins I put out and at there are weeks thats not enough. Folks forget you can throw everything but food and,waste foam into the recycle bin. My trash man misses me on Thursdays and its becoming common in several areas where folks know to throw most items into the yellow bin.   more ›
