The Marine Corps hosted a ceremony in North Carolina on Tuesday to honor Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV.
On Tuesday, the Wild family attended a ceremony hosted by the Marine Corps for Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV and the six other Marines killed in the training accident in Nevada on March 18. The 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment hosted the private ceremony at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. At the ceremony, Lance Cpl. Levi Herring, who served with Wild, gave a eulogy. Wild’s mom, Betz Wild, shared a transcript of the eulogy with Patch. The Marine Corps hosted a ceremony in North Carolina on Tuesday to honor Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV and the six other Marines killed in the training accident in Nevada on March 18. The 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment hosted the ceremony Tuesday at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. The service was attended by the members of the unit and families of the fallen Marines. Wild and six other Marines were killed and eight others were injured after an explosion at Hawthorne Army Depot in Nevada. The cause of the incident remains under investigation, according to a release. From now until Memorial Day, the Severna Park restaurant will raise money for Friends of the Fallen.
The day before Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV left for training in California he stopped by The Breakfast Shoppe for some Chicken and Waffles with his brother and sister in tow. Owner Kyle Algaze said the dish wasn’t on the menu that day, but he made them especially for Taylor. Algaze said Taylor’s brother Griffin teased that Taylor always got what he wanted. That’s just one memory Algaze and The Breakfast Shoppe family is left with now that Taylor Wild is gone. A funeral service for fallen Marine Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV was held in Annapolis Friday afternoon as family and friends paid tribute to the 21-year old who was killed in a training accident in Nevada on March 18. A large group of mourners gathered at Unitarian Universalist Church to remember the Severna Park High graduate who was among seven people killed when a mortar shell exploded during a training exercise. The Patriot Guard Riders stood respectfully in a flag line and young girls handed out yellow ribbons to mourners. Wild's family and friends embraced each other with teary eyes and heavy hearts. A sign of community strength, unity and support can been seen down Arundel Beach Road in Severna Park. On Thursday, the road was lined for miles with flags, signs and love for fallen Marine Lance Cpl. The park in the Whitehurst community was filled with light on a chilly Saturday night as friends, family and neighbors gathered to honor Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV. The candlelight vigil punctuated by fireworks Wild favored was orchestrated by two of Taylor’s former wrestling teammates, Pete Frost and Bobby Ross, but they weren’t expecting the huge crowd. One by one, neighbors and friends walked up to the center of the vigil where flags and a “T” illuminated by candles stood—each one sharing a memory. An American flag is a common sight in the Whitehurst community this week. There’s one on the Whitehurst community sign. There are several along the fence in front of the playground. And there are plenty on the lawns of the homes in the community—each one marking the community’s remembrance of a fallen hero. Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV, a Severna Park High graduate, was killed Monday during a training exercise in Nevada. Since word of his passing, members of the Severna Park community have come together to grieve and offer their support for the Wild family. After her son was killed in a training accident in Nevada, Betz Wild remembers a boy who was unafraid to show love.
He was the boy who liked to fish, play baseball and dance with his sister. He was affectionate, kind and a family man—that’s how Betz Wild remembers her son. Lance Cpl. William Taylor Wild IV was killed Monday during a training accident in Nevada. While he was a Marine who sacrificed his life to serve his country, he was a boy unafraid to show love to Betz. “He’s definitely one of those kids that had no problem showing love,” Betz said. “He doesn’t care where he is, he will give you a hug anywhere and say ‘love you mama’ or ‘love you poppy.’ If Taylor loves you, you know it.” Now Betz reflects on a memory of Taylor playing with his sister. He grew up in the Whitehurst Community in Severna Park. Taylor was active in the Green Hornets sports program playing football, baseball, basketball and wrestling.
