The former KFC building in Severna Park was knocked down and Chick-fil-A is now under construction.
Construction for Severna Park’s Chick-fil-A on Ritchie Highway has begun. The former KFC building was demolished and crews have started working on building the new Chick-fil-A. Tracie Reynolds, a spokesperson for Anne Arundel County Planning and Zoning said she did not have a timetable on when the Chick-fil-A would be complete, but projected that it wouldn’t be too much longer. The old building has been demolished and grading for the new structure has begun, Reynolds said. When initial news of the Chick-fil-A was reported, area residents had mixed reactions. The reasons why the old KFC isn’t an ideal location for Chick-fil-A seem to be endless: traffic issues, parking nightmares and congestion. In an effort to help with traffic concerns in…

The Chick-fil-A is slated to fill the old KFC but some raise questions that a new location would be better.
It’s no secret that some people are not happy that a busy and bustling Chick-fil-A will eventually fill the old KFC on Ritchie Highway. Chick-fil-A has already signed the lease for the KFC building and has plans to move in but, with other vacant buildings around town, I thought it would be interesting to see if readers would be more open to the business coming if it were in a new location. The reasons why the old KFC isn’t an ideal location for Chick-fil-A seem to be endless: traffic issues, parking nightmares and congestion. On a recent Patch article, one reader raised an interesting question about the fast-food chain’s location. Patch reported last week that the former M&T Bank location still remains closed following an August 2012 fire…

If you've been missing chicken since the KFC closed, you will be happy with this news of a new restaurant expected to come to that location.
After months of speculation, guessing and predictions by curious Severna Park residents about what will become of the former KFC location, the answer has arrived. Patch received word from a trusted source on Friday that the latest occupants of the former KFC location will still be serving chicken—but of a different variety. A Chick-fil-A representative has signed a lease on the property at 511 Ritchie Highway where a new restaurant will be built. The demolition of the old building and rebuild is expected to take about six to nine months. The lease is contingent upon getting all the necessary building permits approved, said the source, adding that this is the normal process and there shouldn't be any problems. The KFC in Severna Park closed…

A restaurant is negotiating a lease for the Ritchie Highway location in Severna Park.
Updated (Jan. 26): Mark Mueller, a leasing agent with Baltimore-based Sierra Mid-Atlantic, responded to Patch via email on Monday pertaining to the status of the former KFC location. There has been much speculation on what type of restaurant will be moving in, and it looks like we have to wait a little longer, according to Mueller. "We can report that we have a signed a contingent lease with a company that is in the feasibility phase, where they investigate whether the site physically can work for them. They have about 90 days more to make a decision before they are bounded by the lease. So we are getting closer!" he wrote. In the meantime, let's just keep guessing. Whoever guesses it correctly in the comment thread will receive a Patch …
