Franklin’s Toys Continues a Lego Tradition

The Lego Expo and Sale features creations from area kids.

The front window of Franklin’s Toys in Park Plaza is filled with tanks, fast cars, castles and more—all created from Legos. The local toy store’s annual Lego Expo and sale is currently underway. Owner Jeff Franklin said he has been involved in a Lego Expo for 30 years. Along with a 20 percent off sale on Legos, the Lego Fest also welcomes creations from area kids. Franklin said they usually have around 50 projects displayed in the windows. The ages of the Lego creators range from 3 to 21. “I love seeing the joy and pride on the kids faces when they drop off their creations,” Franklin said. “They just have so much fun doing it.” Those interested in having their Lego projects displayed can bring it to Franklin’s Toys from now until April 21…

The town of Severna Park is full of local businesses that provide great services for the community. In order to get a better sense of the owners and managers behind the businesses, Patch is introducing a new column. Local Business Owners: 10 Reasons to Shop Local

After the recent closing of a local business, area business owners want to remind the community why it’s important to shop local.

After hearing the news that BJ’s Blings and Things would be closing its doors for good, one local business owner thought it would be a good opportunity to remind the community of the importance of shopping local.  Dawn Wilson, an owner of Side Street Framers in Severna Park, said she had no idea Blings and Things was closing and the news touched her personally. “It is so important for our local residents to support our small locally owned business, or we may see more have to close,” Wilson said.  “I don't think people always realize that where they chose to spend their money makes such a huge difference for these local businesses.” Wilson, who owns Side Street Framers with her mom, said she and Franklin’s Toys owner Jeff Franklin co-chair …
