Zito Pleads Guilty in Family Violence Incident

The 22-year-old Millersville man will be committed indefinitely to the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene.

James Arthur Zito, the 22-year-old Millersville man who was accused of stabbing his mother in July 2012, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis Tuesday morning. According to state attorney's office spokeswoman Kristin Fleckenstein, Zito pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault, two counts of false imprisonment and one count of having a dangerous weapon. “Part of the plea deal included the defense basically offering information to the judge so [Zito] would be found not criminally responsible,” Fleckenstein said. “The issue with this is he had to be committed to the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene.” Defense attorney David Putzi said the result was what he and Zito’s …

Family Violence Trial Rescheduled for March 14

The criminal trial for the 22-year-old Millersville man accused of stabbing his mother is scheduled for March 14.

The trial for James Arthur Zito, a 22-year-old Millersville man who allegedly stabbed his mother in July 2012 and then fled the home, has been rescheduled for March 14. Zito's criminal trial in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis was originally scheduled to take place on Jan. 22. It was postponed when the defense attorney filed a motion indicating Zito had mental health issues. "The case postponed because the defense attorney filed a NCR," state attorney's office spokeswoman Kristin Fleckenstein told Patch in January. "That is basically a motion that the defense attorney files where he is trying to say to the court, 'My client has mental health issues and is not criminally responsible for this case.'" The criminal trial for the 22-year-old Millersville man accused of stabbing his mother was postponed.

The trial for James Arthur Zito, the 22-year-old Millersville man who allegedly stabbed his mother in July 2012 and then fled the home, was postponed on Tuesday. Zito's criminal trial in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis was originally scheduled to take place Tuesday morning. Kristin Fleckenstein, a spokeswoman for state's attorney office, said the state's case against Zito has been postponed. James Arthur Zito, the 22-year-old Millersville man who allegedly stabbed his mother and then fled the home, will go to trial on Tuesday. According to an online case search, Zito's criminal trial is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis. He is charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment, arson threat and having a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure. On July 30, police responded to a family violence call in the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way where a 54-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds. James Arthur Zito, the 21-year-old Millersville man who allegedly stabbed his mother and then fled the home, will go to trial on Jan. 22. On July 30, police responded to a family violence call in the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way where a 54-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds. According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that Zito suddenly became violent for unknown reasons and restrained two family members inside the home before later stabbing his mother multiple times in the upper body. He then fled. Police searched for Zito and found him in Glen Burnie on July 31. Stabbing Suspect Found in Glen Burnie

A tip from a citizen brought the Anne Arundel County police to the Glen Burnie Mall area where James Zito was apprehended.

James Arthur Zito, 21, who allegedly stabbed his mother and then fled their home in Millersville on Monday night, was apprehended by police at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, according to a press release. Anne Arundel County police officers took Zito into custody near the Glen Burnie Mall after receiving a tip from a citizen. Zito was then taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, according to the press release. Police responded to a family violence call at about 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way in Shipley's Choice where a 54-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds.
