Area Residents Head to New Jersey to Help, Again

Kristen Renick and Jeanette Middleton Sudano are recruiting volunteers to provide additional assistance to those impacted by Superstorm Sandy on Saturday.

After a week of collecting supplies for victims of Superstorm Sandy, and a day trip to help clean up—two Severna Forest residents are heading back to New Jersey once again. And they need your help. Jeanette Middleton Sudano said the supplies that were taken to Highlands, NJ, on Nov. 10 went directly to those in need. And the cleanup efforts on Nov. 17 were a great help. However, the Highlands community has called on her and Kristen Renick again and the pair is organizing another relief effort. “The clean up situation and daily routine the community faces continues to be enormous,” Middleton Sudano said. “They called and we are going back.” Middleton Sudano said Bowens Bus Service donated a 44-passenger van and now all they need are …

SP Volunteers Will Travel to NJ for Sandy Relief

A busload of volunteers will leave from Severna Park High School on Saturday morning and head to Highlands, NJ.

Volunteers from Severna Park will head to Highlands, NJ on Saturday to help with Hurricane Sandy relief, and it’s not too late for you to get involved. After dropping off supplies to a church in Highlands, NJ, on Saturday, Severna Forest residents Kristen Renick and Jeanette Middleton Sudano decided people there needed more than just donations—they needed actual help. So they have organized another trip and this time they are bringing volunteers. “The clean up situation and daily routine the community faces is enormous,” Renick wrote in an email. “They need more and we are going back.” A busload of local volunteers will leave from Severna Park High School at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and return around 10 or 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. Jeanette Middleton Sudano and Kristen Renick took Sandy relief supplies to New Jersey on Saturday and are now thanking the community for its help.

After a week of collecting supplies for area residents, sorting donations, and packing up trucks Kristen Renick and Jeanette Middleton Sudano took a truck-load of supplies to Highlands, NJ on Saturday. Renick said everyone at the church Our Lady of Perpetual Help was extremely grateful for the donations. Renick and Middleton Sudano wrote Patch to thank everyone for their help—but naturally, they aren't done yet. Dear Friends and Neighbors, Words can’t express enough our gratitude for helping to make our Hurricane Sandy Relief drive a success! Your support made our job of focusing on rallying the community together and getting the task at hand done, so much easier. I am so proud of our communities for pulling together to help our …

PHOTOS: Sandy Relief Drop-Offs

Students at St. John the Evangelist School and St. Martins in the Field Parish donated supplies to the Sandy relief effort.

Kristen Renick collected two trailers full of supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims from St. John the Evangelist School and St. Martins in the Field Parish on Thursday. Check out the photos and add your own if you have them. Renick will continue to take supplies until Friday evening, however, they do not need donations of “regular clothes” because they have so many already. They still need: flashlights, batteries, work gloves, contractor bags, cleaning supplies, boxes, winter clothes (hats, gloves, coats) socks and underwear. See Also: Let Patch save you time. NJ Shelter Cheers for Severna Park Donations

Community members from all over gathered at the Renick family's home in Severna Forest to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.

The Renick family home in Severna Forest Thursday night was a sight to be seen. Spotlights illuminated a yard covered with boxes and bags, while Boy Scouts and community members sorted clothes and loaded boxes into the Clement Hardware truck. The entire effort was spurred by a common desire to help those in New Jersey impacted by Hurricane Sandy. “I can’t even express how thankful I am to everyone,” Kristen Renick said at one point in the night. “People just keep showing up with supplies and want to know what more they can do.” One man dropped off a bag of blankets. He then stood in the driveway asking what more he could do. He wanted to know if he could go to New Jersey; he said he would leave the next day. He just wanted to "do something…

Local School, Business Team Up to Help Sandy Victims

Thanks to help from Clement Hardware in Severna Park, Belvedere Elementary School was able to take supplies to New Jersey to aid Sandy victims.

After Hurricane Sandy, Belvedere Elementary teacher Kaitlin Paul decided to collect supplies and take them to her hometown of Toms River, NJ. Paul informed the staff at Belvedere of what she was doing and asked for their help—the response was overwhelming. "I sent out an email to my friends in Baltimore and I asked my principal if I could send it to the staff," Paul said. "I only had two days to collect stuff because I was leaving on Friday after work. I didn’t expect that much. But people at home brought stuff to my house and filled up my kitchen and people at work brought two bags each and I couldn’t fit it all in my car." In just 24 hours, Paul and the staff at Belvedere pulled together enough clothing, dry goods, and toiletries to fill…

UPDATE: Severna Forest Resident Aids Sandy Victims

People wishing to make donations can now drop off supplies at the Starbucks on Ritchie Highway.

When some Severna Park Patch readers first read about the Renick family—a Severna Forest couple collecting supplies for areas of New Jersey that was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy—the first thing they wanted to know was how they could help. Just a few days later, Kristen Renick said the response has been so great that they have had to find a bigger truck to transport all the donations. "My neighbor Jeanette Middleton Sudano has arranged for a company to donate a huge truck, driver, gas and tolls to us," Renick said. "We have plenty of room now. It is a huge truck and we are ready." Those wishing to donate supplies can continue to drop them off at Renick's home at 205 Balsam Dr. Or they can drop them off at the Starbucks on Ritchie Highway. "…

It is nice to know people care about us on the New Jersey Shore. Our Towns have literally been washed away and your efforts shed some light on this dark time. Anyone can write a check and hope that a portion goes to the victims but not too many are actually willing to give their own time and energy. Maryland Unlikely To See Large Impact From Nor'easter

A National Weather Service forecaster said Maryland is unlikely to get much of a hit from the nor'easter developing to the southeast, one that could hit areas still recovering from Superstorm Sandy.

Here we go again? Just a week after Superstorm Sandy rumbled up the eastern seaboard, a powerful nor'easter appears set to do the same, with the outside chance to dump a wintry mix on parts of Maryland. In an advisory Monday, the National Weather Service said the storm is expected to develop off the Carolina coast on Tuesday before moving north. Ken Widelski, a forecaster with the NWS in Sterling, VA, said in a phone interview that how much precipitiation the Baltimore area gets—if any—depends on how far west the storm forms. "The exact track of the system is very uncertain right now," Widelski said. "There is a chance for some precipitation that would be generally Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. If that were the case, it could …

Severna Forest Resident Aids Sandy Victims

Kristen Renick and her husband collect supplies to take to towns in New Jersey that were heavily impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

After Hurricane Sandy, Severna Forest community resident Kristen Renick thought that once her power came back on, things would be fine. That was until she turned on her TV and saw the pictures of her hometown in New Jersey. “My husband and I are from New Jersey, and we were really upset,” Renick said. “Once we got power back and saw all the pictures, I think we were in shock.” Renick grew up in Rumson, NJ, and her husband is from Middleton, NJ—Hurricane Sandy heavily impacted both areas. Renuck saw the details about the benefit concert and decided to do something to help. “I sent out an email to the treasurer of our community at like 9 on Friday night,” Renick said. “It was very short and just said we were collecting supplies and taking it…
