Homestead Gardens Hosts Job Fair Saturday

Full- and part-time positions are available at the Davidsonville and Severna Park locations.

Homestead Gardens is hosting a job fair at the Davidsonville location on Saturday. The store is offering full- and part-time positions at both the Davidsonville and Severna Park location. The fair will be held in Davidsonville from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. According to its website, Homestead Gardens is hiring cashiers, loaders and stockers; as well as sales associates in all departments: Anyone interested in attending the job fair should bring a resume and be prepared to meet with the Homestead Gardens team.

Linda’s Legacy To Collect Donations in Severna Park

The group will collect donations for its homeless drive in Severna Park on Friday and Saturday.

Giving Back, Linda’s Legacy, a group that provides items to the homeless, will collect supplies in Severna Park on Saturday and Sunday. The annual Christmas drive gathers donations for more than 25 homeless shelters in Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City. The group will collect supplies at Homestead Gardens in Severna Park from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. “The whole thing is a homeless drive, and we have done it for years,” said Kim Lank, shelter coordinator. “It is like a big push to fill all 25 plus shelters. We try to supply them with their wish list of needs.” The name Giving Back, Linda’s Legacy" comes from an Anne Arundel County woman named Linda Greenberg who originally started the effort. Christmas Tree Sales in Severna Park

North and south and in the center of town, there are many options when looking to buy a tree. What kind of tree will you buy this year? Answer the Patch poll.

You don't have to go far to find the perfect Christmas tree, unless you are chopping one down on a farm. There are stands and nurseries sprinkled throughout Severna Park offering a full selection of trees and other items for holiday decorating. Take a look:  Big Tree, located on a small strip of land next to Ritchie Highway northbound, Big Tree is owned by William Streams of Severna Park who has operated in this area for decades. Big Tree has two varieties of trees, among others, that are unique to the area. A Concolor fir, also known as a white fir, is soft needled and light blue in color. This tree resembles a white pine, however, the needles are a bit stronger, making it a good pick for those who hang heavier ornaments, Streams said. …

Future of Homestead Gardens in Place After Untimely Death of Founder

Employees and customers wondered what would become of the 38-year old company after the owner, Don Riddle, died last month.

When Don Riddle took his own life last month, there were questions about how Homestead Gardens, with locations in Davidsonville and Severna Park, would move into the future without the founding owner. Don’s father, Don Riddle Sr., had passed away earlier this year and Don's oldest son had moved out of state. The company is a family-owned business, so there were no stockholders or board members to appoint to leadership positions. Rumors swirled in Davidsonville that some of the employees were working towards an employee buyout of the nursery, the largest employer in Davidsonville. Homestead's Semper Fi Fundraiser This Weekend

Homestead Gardens is having its yearly fundraiser for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund at the Severna Park store from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.  This is the sixth year the garden center has helped raise funds for the Semper Fi Fund that helps injured Marines adjust to life after an altering injury while in service. Raffle tickets are being sold at each of Homestead Gardens location to win a $100 gift certificate to the garden center (one for each location), along with gift cards to local restaurants.
