Local Delegates Gear up for new Legislative Session
Projected $1.6 billion budget deficit looming issue.
While Congressional lawmakers settle into their offices on Capitol Hill this week, state legislators are preparing to head to the State House in Annapolis on Jan. 12 for the start of the 2011 session of the Maryland General Assembly. For Speaker of the House Del. Michael Busch (D-Annapolis), who is starting his 25th year representing the Broadneck Peninsula as one of three delegates from District 30, “opening day” is his favorite time. “It’s a time of celebration when everyone’s hopes and spirits of what they’d like to accomplish are all out there before them,” he said. That glow of good cheer is likely to fade by the second week, when Gov. Martin O’Malley is expected to present his budget recommendation for FY 2012 to the legislature. A …
