Kristen Renick and Jeanette Middleton Sudano are recruiting volunteers to provide additional assistance to those impacted by Superstorm Sandy on Saturday.
After a week of collecting supplies for victims of Superstorm Sandy, and a day trip to help clean up—two Severna Forest residents are heading back to New Jersey once again. And they need your help. Jeanette Middleton Sudano said the supplies that were taken to Highlands, NJ, on Nov. 10 went directly to those in need. And the cleanup efforts on Nov. 17 were a great help. Volunteers from Severna Park will head to Highlands, NJ on Saturday to help with Hurricane Sandy relief, and it’s not too late for you to get involved. After dropping off supplies to a church in Highlands, NJ, on Saturday, Severna Forest residents Kristen Renick and Jeanette Middleton Sudano decided people there needed more than just donations—they needed actual help. Jeanette Middleton Sudano and Kristen Renick took Sandy relief supplies to New Jersey on Saturday and are now thanking the community for its help.
After a week of collecting supplies for area residents, sorting donations, and packing up trucks Kristen Renick and Jeanette Middleton Sudano took a truck-load of supplies to Highlands, NJ on Saturday. Renick said everyone at the church Our Lady of Perpetual Help was extremely grateful for the donations. Renick and Middleton Sudano wrote Patch to thank everyone for their help—but naturally, they aren't done yet. Students at St. John the Evangelist School and St. Martins in the Field Parish donated supplies to the Sandy relief effort.
Kristen Renick collected two trailers full of supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims from St. John the Evangelist School and St. Martins in the Field Parish on Thursday. Check out the photos and add your own if you have them. Renick will continue to take supplies until Friday evening, however, they do not need donations of “regular clothes” because they have so many already. Community members from all over gathered at the Renick family's home in Severna Forest to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
The Renick family home in Severna Forest Thursday night was a sight to be seen. Spotlights illuminated a yard covered with boxes and bags, while Boy Scouts and community members sorted clothes and loaded boxes into the Clement Hardware truck. The entire effort was spurred by a common desire to help those in New Jersey impacted by Hurricane Sandy. “I can’t even express how thankful I am to everyone,” Kristen Renick said at one point in the night. “People just keep showing up with supplies and want to know what more they can do.” One man dropped off a bag of blankets. People wishing to make donations can now drop off supplies at the Starbucks on Ritchie Highway.
When some Severna Park Patch readers first read about the Renick family—a Severna Forest couple collecting supplies for areas of New Jersey that was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy—the first thing they wanted to know was how they could help. Just a few days later, Kristen Renick said the response has been so great that they have had to find a bigger truck to transport all the donations. "My neighbor Jeanette Middleton Sudano has arranged for a company to donate a huge truck, driver, gas and tolls to us," Renick said. "We have plenty of room now. It is a huge truck and we are ready." Kristen Renick and her husband collect supplies to take to towns in New Jersey that were heavily impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
After Hurricane Sandy, Severna Forest community resident Kristen Renick thought that once her power came back on, things would be fine. That was until she turned on her TV and saw the pictures of her hometown in New Jersey. “My husband and I are from New Jersey, and we were really upset,” Renick said. “Once we got power back and saw all the pictures, I think we were in shock.” Renick grew up in Rumson, NJ, and her husband is from Middleton, NJ—Hurricane Sandy heavily impacted both areas.
