Talk It Out: Fenced-In Flea Market on Ritchie Highway

On Facebook, commenters seemed to be of the same mind, saying the property owner should pack up, or clean the site up.

One of the more popular stories on Severna Park Patch last week was a photo gallery of a controversial fenced-in property alongside Ritchie Highway. The site is often used to sell flowers and Christmas trees, but right now it is not being operated and instead is used to house used furniture. In January, the property's owner Donna Marsh was issued a citation for operating a flea market on the land in violation of county zoning laws. On Facebook, commenters seemed to be of the same mind, saying the property owner should pack up, or clean the site up. Ellen McCourt Scarano: "I doubt the quality of the furniture is very good. The property's owner was issued a citation in January for operating an outdoor flea market in violation of local zoning laws.

When this spot on Ritchie Highway isn't operating as a roadside flower stand or pumpkin patch, it's mostly used to store old furniture. What would you like to see happen to this plot of land? There's a chain-link fence along Ritchie Highway between Arnold and Severna Park. If you've driven along the roadway, you really can't miss it.  It's operated seasonally by property owner Donna Marsh, according to The Capital. But when not in use, it houses old wares and old furniture.  In January, Marsh was issued a citation for operating an outdoor flea market on the property in violation of local zoning laws, according to online court records. She can never build a Brick & Mortar store there. It is almost all critical area and I seriously doubt she will get permits and variances to get that done. She would have tremendous opposition to building on the headwaters of Cypress Creek which needs grasses bad. Her place looks trashy and maybe you like it, but many don't like the look at would hate to see rt 2 look like some areas north of us.   more ›
