The Chick-fil-A is slated to fill the old KFC but some raise questions that a new location would be better.
It’s no secret that some people are not happy that a busy and bustling Chick-fil-A will eventually fill the old KFC on Ritchie Highway. Chick-fil-A has already signed the lease for the KFC building and has plans to move in but, with other vacant buildings around town, I thought it would be interesting to see if readers would be more open to the business coming if it were in a new location. The reasons why the old KFC isn’t an ideal location for Chick-fil-A seem to be endless: traffic issues, parking nightmares and congestion. On a recent Patch article, one reader raised an interesting question about the fast-food chain’s location. Patch reported last week that the former M&T Bank location still remains closed following an August 2012 fire…

In a recent poll, 52 percent of people said the expansion would not help with traffic.
A Chick-fil-A is set to fill the vacant KFC on Ritchie Highway, but some area residents think the fast food chain will cause more traffic than it is worth. In an effort to help with the impending traffic, the Chick-fil-A slated to fill the former KFC on Ritchie Highway will need to make improvements to Leelyn Drive before it can open. In a recent Patch poll, 52 percent said they do not think expanding the road will help with traffic in the area. Many readers sounded off on their frustrations in the comments. John wrote, “The improvements will help I'm sure, but overall traffic will still be degraded further. I can't believe the power's to be are letting Severna Park be over built. NO WAIT, yes I do believe it.” The Starbucks that is …

Do you think making improvements to Leelyn Drive will help with the traffic a Chick-fil-A could bring?
Last week, Patch reported that the Chick-fil-A slated to fill the former KFC on Ritchie Highway will need to make improvements to Leelyn Drive before it can open. “There are road improvements that need to be done on the Chick-fil-A side of Leelyn Drive,” said Tracie Reynolds, a spokesperson for Anne Arundel Planning and Zoning. “They need to make Leelyn Drive wider to help with traffic.” The eventual opening of a Chick-fil-A in Severna Park has been a hot topic of conversation amongst area residents who worry the popular fast food chain will bring traffic problems. The Starbucks located next to Leelyn Drive already causes problems and some fear a Chick-fil-A will only lead to more headaches. Since improvements will be made to Leelyn Drive…

The fast food chain replacing KFC will be responsible for making improvements to Leelyn Drive.
Area residents looking forward to Chick-fil-A in Severna Park will have to wait until the company can expand Leelyn Drive. Chick-fil-A has signed the lease to take over the old KFC on Ritchie Highway and now has to improve the condition of Leelyn Drive. “There are road improvements that need to be done on the Chick-fil-A side of Leelyn Drive,” said Tracie Reynolds a spokesperson for Anne Arundel Planning and Zoning. “They need to make Leelyn Drive wider to help with traffic.” Chick-fil-A also will reconstruct the two entrances into the former KFC parking lot, Reynolds said. “They have applied for grading permits so once that is approved they will get started,” Reynolds said. A grading permit must be approved anytime a company plans to “…

A Chick-fil-A is still set to fill the space, but it is still in the earlier planning stages.
For those wondering what is going on with the old KFC on Ritchie Highway, a Chick-fil-A is set to fill the vacant building, but it is still in the preliminary stages. Rosanne Zimmerman, with Anne Arundel County Planning and Zoning said that Chick-fil-A representatives are working to address concerns with Leelyn Drive. “It is just part of the process of what they have to go through,” Zimmerman said. “I believe it was mainly with the needed improvements to the road and that was what the hold up was.” Zimmerman said that in order for a Chick-fil-A to occupy the building, Leelyn Drive needs to be a certain width. The street currently does not meet the requirement. Chick-fil-A must make improvements to the road or apply for modification or …
