Victims Memorial Service Will Honor Area Residents

State Delegate Cathy Vitale is asking that families of victims who have died fill out an informational form.

The Maryland State Board of Victim Services is holding a statewide memorial service and State Delegate Cathy Vitale (R-District 33A) wants area residents to know the service is being offered and sign up to be recognized. “Cathy [Vitale] wants people in the county to know that it’s available to them and let their friends and family know it is available,” said Kelly Mcney, a legislative aid. According to a press release, the memorial service honors the memory of those Marylanders who lost lives to violent crime and acknowledges the families who have had their lives dramatically changed as a result of someone else’s violent actions. O’Malley Celebrates No. 1 at Jones Elementary

Gov. Martin O’Malley visited Jones Elementary Thursday afternoon to celebrate Maryland public school’s No. 1 ranking.

Gov. Martin O’Malley and other state and local officials celebrated Maryland public school’s top ranking at Jones Elementary School on Thursday afternoon. Maryland’s public schools was certified Thursday as No. 1 in the nation for the fifth straight year by Education Week Magazine. Cynthia, don't forget the $$$ that gets poured into the schools. That number figures into the ranking. Not that we really get our money's worth. P.G. County parents should be incensed though….the highest per capita income for a minority-majority county and their schools rank 23rd or 24th in the state out of 25 school systems. Vitale: This Election is a Game-Changer

Patch caught up with Delegate Cathy Vitale outside of Severna Park Middle School on Election Day.

State delegate and Severna Park native Cathy Vitale (R-District 33A) was outside Severna Park Middle School on Election Day morning—but she wasn’t waiting to cast her vote. Vitale, a Republican, said she actually voted early and was spending Election Day around the polls talking with voters. Throughout the county, early voting numbers skewed heavily towards Democrats, something Vitale said surprised her. “I was surprised by the numbers,” she said. “Last election, Republicans came out heavily in early voting. The Severna Park native will work to determine how to best overcome domestic violence.

Delegate Cathy Vitale, a Severna Park native, has been appointed to the governor’s Family Violence Council. As a member of the council she will work to serve Maryland families and determine how to best overcome domestic violence. “I am pleased to be given this opportunity," said Vitale about the recent appointment in a release. "Domestic violence is a serious problem in Maryland.  Its effects on families and particularly children can have long lasting negative implications as they grow up and form their own families."
