Baltimore police released the details surrounding Friday’s arrest of Carl O. Snowden, stating that the Annapolis civil rights leader was sitting in a parked car with a registered sex offender when officers approached his vehicle, according to The Capital. The police report contradicts the words of Snowden’s attorney, Cary J. Hansel, who said Snowden was pulled over for a broken tail light. Reports say the civil rights director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office was charged on Friday.
Carl O. Snowden, the civil rights director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, was charged with marijuana possession in Baltimore on Friday, according to online court records. Snowden's attorney told The Capital that he is confident Snowden will be found not guilty of the drug charge and that he was with another person in his car Friday when he was pulled over by police for a broken tail light. The group has filed a request for information about accusations that the county executive used police officers to build "dossiers" against political opponents.
The Maryland office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is demanding more details about an alleged “enemies list” held by Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold, and accused him of violating the First Amendment. The ACLU said Wednesday in a press release that it has lodged a public information request to both the county executive and Anne Arundel County Police Department, and plan to send a letter to the County Council requesting an investigation.
