Obituary for James B. Sutherland

James B. Sutherland, 83, a 49 year resident of Severna Park, died of complication from Alzheimer’s on Dec.19, 2011 at his home surrounded by his wife and children,

James was born Nov. 7, 1928 in Glen Burnie, MD to the late Elizabeth Wisner and James Sutherland. James attended Glen Burnie High School and served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Elks Lodge # 622 and the Masonic Lodge # 213. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, crabbing, electronics, and being with his family, friends and church friends. He was preceded in death by son Randolph. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Grace Homens Sutherland; one daughter, India Katherine Sutherland and her husband George Maloney of Severna Park; six sons, James “Blake” III, Stewart, William, Ralph, David and his wife Donna, Douglas, and daughter-in-law, Donna, all of Maryland; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Obituary for Kathy G. Holmes

Kathy G. Holmes, 54, a resident of Severna Park, died on December 17, 2011.

Kathy was born on February 13, 1957 in Baltimore, where she was raised. She worked as an orthodontist assistant for over 30 years. In her free time she enjoyed bike rides, taking walks, boating, working out and cooking. Kathy is survived by her husband of 28 years Charles “Denny” Holmes III, her daughter Kiya Holmes of Severna Park and her son Chad Holmes of Severna Park. Hundreds Attend Funeral for Pasadena Teen

Around 400 people came out to celebrate the life of Kara R. Micciche, the 17-year-old who was struck by a car last week in Severna Park.

Around 400 friends and family members attended the funeral of Kara R. Micciche Monday afternoon at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Kara died last week after she and her boyfriend, 19-year-old Sean Snyder of Severna Park, were struck by a car as they were crossing Ritchie Highway near a carnival. Snyder was last reported to be in stable condition. According to Senior Pastor Dr. George E. Black, Kara was an organ donor and seven people received her organs. "She had an opportunity to share a part of herself to help others," said Associate Pastor Dr. John B. Warther. Her caring nature was something that people said they will remember about the teen. Homestead Gardens Founder Don Riddle Dead at 62

Riddle was found dead aboard his boat on Thursday.

Shipley's Choice Mourns Loss of Inspirational Teacher

Karen Jauschnegg, teacher at Shipley's Choice Elementary School for 10 years dies after courageous battle with cancer.

The community of Shipley's Choice is mourning the loss of a dynamic and inspirational teacher, Karen Jauschnegg who passed away April 21 after a lengthy battle with cancer.  A teacher in Anne Arundel County for 37 years, Jauschnegg spent the last 10 years at Shipley's Choice Elementary School where she made a positive impact on her students with her quick smile and nurturing personality.  Her way with children had a lasting impression.  According to an e-mail from Caroline Johnson, a senior at Severna Park High School, Jauschnegg: " Inspired creativity through imaginative project assignments that required the students emerging themselves into character from history,a poem or story." Karen Jauschnegg was one of those rare teachers who inspired her students well beyond their time in her class. My daughter had her for 4th grade, and had frequently gone back to SCES to see her and to share her progress and her report cards, and catch up with her favorite teacher, Mrs. Jauschnegg. William Donald Schaefer Leaves 'Do It Now' Legacy on Maryland Politics

The former governor, Baltimore mayor and state comptroller who died on Monday will lie in state at the State House in Annapolis and in the rotunda of Baltimore City Hall.

UPDATE (10:10 a.m.)—William Donald Schaefer—Baltimore's legendary former mayor, Maryland governor and state comptroller—died Monday at around 6:30 p.m. in his bed at the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville, according to his longtime friend Lainy M. LeBow-Sachs. "I was with him holding his hand," LeBow-Sachs told Patch. "He couldn't speak." Hundreds Gather to Remember Faye Daniel

Severna Park resident and Tyler Heights principal remembered and honored.

 Hundreds gathered at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park on Thursday morning to honor Faye Hamlin Daniel, a Severna Park resident who died on Dec. 24. Daniel served as principal of Tyler Heights Elementary School up until this fall, when she became ill. The service was officiated by the Rev. Dr. Floyd W. Churn, the Rev. Nancy Lincoln Reynolds, the Rev. Elizabeth D. McLean and the Rev. Dr. W. Terry Schoener. The first hymn sung was "Morning Has Broken." McLean shared memories of when she first met Daniel. Family members shared stories and read verses from the Bible. Schoener shared notes written by Tyler Heights students earlier in the month.
