Sponsor a Family For Christmas Through SPAN in Severna Park

Serving People Across Neighborhoods (SPAN) and other local organizations need help this holiday season. See what you can do to help make the season brighter for someone else.

You can also complete the Holiday Caring form and mail to SPAN at 400 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146. Please see the Gift Guidelines for Holiday Caring and a listing of food items to be included for a holiday meal. The Christmas drop-off is from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 18.

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the  To make your donation appointment, call 410-647-5843 or 1-800-GIVE-BLOOD.

Walk the Walk Foundation, all donations for the Walk of Christmas are due on Dec. 4 to provide for 281 children. Most needed now, according to the website, are $25 Wal-Mart gift cards. Giving Back, Linda's Legacy needs volunteers to collect coats from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 20-23 at the Farmer’s Market on Riva Road in Annapolis. Email Info@homelessdrive.com for information. Students can receive community service credit for helping with the homeless drive. You can also sponsor a backpack to be filled with warm clothing to be delivered on Christmas Eve.

Providence Center, multiple , Millersville and Pasadena

The center provides services to developmentally disabled adults and has immediate openings for volunteers (including mature high school students) and offers flexible scheduling.

  • In Arnold, the center needs pottery and , woodworking aides and friendly visitors.
  • In Millersville, the center needs aides; and crafts, woodshop and pottery assistants.
  • The Pasadena location needs a senior program assistant.

 Cats R Us Inc., shelters in Arnold and Annapolis
Volunteers, age 8 and older, are needed to assist with cleaning the shelters, to attend adoption shows at PetSmart in Annapolis, to make cat/kitten home deliveries, or to sit and spend time with wonderful cats. Harmony House, Pasadena
A small group of volunteers are needed to help with decorating Harmony House for the holidays and setting up holiday crafts. Families use the facility as a home setting for visits between parents and children who were in the care and custody of the Department of Social Services. Volunteers are needed on Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, email sarahlitts@volunteerannearundel.org.

Arundel Lodge, Annapolis
A small group of volunteers are needed to help with the Arundel Lodge Open Eye Gallery. Volunteers will help with matting and framing the artwork for the gallery, as well as helping with taking down and replacing artwork on Dec. 2 from 9-11 a.m. For more information, email sarahlitts@volunteerannearundel.org.

 

Bello Machre, throughout Anne Arundel County
This organization provides loving homes and support to people with developmental disabilities. Volunteers are needed to help with the following:

  • Decorate homes on Dec. 6 and 7 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to make them festive for the holiday season. An ideal community service project for family, friends, and community groups.
  • Judge homes in a decorating contest on Dec. 17 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Help with pastry pickups at Starbucks on Dec. 20, 22, 27 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to deliver them to Bello Machre’s main office.

Rob’s Barber Shop Community Foundation
Volunteers, minimum age 16, are needed for administrative tasks and volunteer barbers and hairstylist are also needed to serve homeless and other needy persons in Odenton and surrounding areas. Call Robert Cradle at 410-519-2622 or rcr365@aol.com.

 

Fouse Center, Glen Burnie
Donations needed include: drink mixes; prepared foods; nonperishable, frozen foods and fresh foods such as milk, eggs, fruits and vegetables; toiletry items such as deodorant, toothbrushes and shampoo; new or gently used men’s clothing, including suits, ties, shirts, dress shoes pants, jackets, hats, gloves, new socks and underwear; cleaning supplies, paper products, cookware; new or gently used linens, such as twin sheet sets, pillows, pillow cases and bath towels.
