Plans Underway for Next Year's Earth Day Festival

Earth Day was celebrated on Saturday at Severna Park Middle School with a festival that drew visitors from throughout the county.

Hosted by the Greater Severna Park Watershed Action group, Saturday's Earth Day Festival drew an estimated 1,800 people to  (SPMS).

Jim Brennan, one of the event's organizers, said the turnout was slightly lower than in previous years.

"While that is perhaps a tad lower than previous years, I am thrilled to say that it was mainly because of so many other Earth Day events happening around the area," Brennan said.

The Earth Day Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, with a tentative time and date set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 20, 2013.

Brennan said he is hoping SPMS will once again be the host and thanked SPMS Principal Sharon Morell and the maintenance staff for her help in coordinating the event along with co-coordinator Chris Myers.
