New Faces at Serving People Across Neighborhoods

The Severna Park nonprofit welcomes a new staffer and a board member.

The small house that serves as the office and food pantry for (SPAN) is welcoming new staff and board members this spring.

Jennifer Pumphrey is the new associate director, replacing Kathy Laukhart who retired in January after seven years with the nonprofit. SPAN provides food and financial assistance to individuals and families in need throughout most of Anne Arundel County.

According the SPAN newsletter, a farewell luncheon for Laukhart was held at the complete with a goodbye song written by SPAN volunteer Sylvia Marston.

Pumphrey is a Severna Park resident and licensed clinical social worker with a master's degree in social work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Social work. She's been active in SPAN's food drives, a client interviewer and now manages all of the volunteers and will coordinate SPAN's Holiday Caring programs.

"I'm very excited to be here and working with the volunteers, a very generous community, and helping the clients," Pumphrey said.

Dona Weingarten is the new president of the SPAN Board of Directors. She was an interviewer for two years after retiring from 26 years of teaching and administration, according to the newsletter.
