Whiz Kid's School: Folger McKinsey Elementary School

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Jake has earned straight A's in Arabic language studies at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) program.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness:  When Jake is not busy studying Arabic or other school subjects, he pursues a variety of other interests and demonstrates compassion.   This Folger third-grader is also involved in cub scouts, basketball, flag football and playing the cello. 

In her submission entry, proud mom Kerri Shirey noted, “Jake sponsored a soldier in Afghanistan through his church, , and took time to sent the soldier a personal thank you for his sacrifice. He also collected food for as part of his cub scout den's 'Scouting for Food' program, with his Dad as den leader.”

Jake is interested in becoming a botanist.  For good practice, he planted a full vegetable garden this spring with his father.  As a rising fourth-grader, Jake will be eligible to participate in Folger’s Math Olympiad next year. 

Along with these activities, Jake also has a yellow belt in karate and has won medals in swimming competitions.
