AAUW Collects Books For Annual Fair

The Anne Arundel County Branch of the American Association of University Women will host its book fair on Nov. 1 and 4.

The Anne Arundel County Branch of the American Association on Women (AAUW) has announced the dates of its annual book fair.

The fair will be held in Pasadena on Nov. 1 and 4.

AAUW member Teresa Gilbert said the group has held a book sale for more than 40 years, and it has always been a successful fundraiser. The AAUW began collecting books on Saturday in Severna Park for the event.

Gilbert said the money raised from the fair is used for scholarships awarded to women who graduate from Anne Arundel Community College and continue on to a four-year institution.

“We have granted over 50 scholarships since we established the program,” Gilbert wrote in an email to Patch.

Money raised also goes toward the Women to Women Program, which provides funds to women for various school and training programs.

“Fifteen women have won these awards in the two years since it was established,” Gilbert wrote.

Additional money goes toward AAUW organizations to support grants and scholarship programs nationwide.

This year’s book sale is scheduled for Nov. 1 and 4 at 8151-D Ritchie Highway, which is at the Festival at Pasadena Shopping Center near Ollie's Bargain Outlet.

On Nov. 1 there is a $10 admission fee from 8-10 a.m. After that, Gilbert said there is no charge.
