Oct. 16 marks a significant day in Severna Park field hockey history.

This week, The Baltimore Sun reported that on Oct. 16, 2003, the Falcon field hockey team racked up longtime coach Lil Shelton’s 400th victory. The win came off a 2-1 victory over South River in the county championships. It was Shelton’s 25th county title in 26 years of coaching, according to The Sun.

This year’s field hockey team is continuing another successful season, but without Shelton, who stepped down in 2011. After 37 seasons, Shelton had racked up 46 career wins, and 20 state titles.
