'It's a Dream Come True' Says Baltimore Winter Olympian

The Baltimore Fire Department gave Britcher an Olympic sendoff Thursday. Her father, grandfather and uncles are Baltimore firefighters.

With the Winter Olympics ready to start in Sochi, Russia, on Feb. 7, Baltimore native Summer Britcher is gearing up to represent the U.S. in luge, reports WBAL TV.

"It's a dream come true. I was one of those little kids that wanted to go to the Olympics and, like I said, I can't believe it sometimes; that it's actually happening," Britcher told the TV station.

The Baltimore Fire Department on Thursday gave Britcher a send-off fit for an Olympian. Her father, grandfather and uncles are all Baltimore firefighters.

"At first, I was very nervous because I was there thinking she'd be excited or very heartbroken," Baltimore Fire Department Capt. William Britcher, Summer Britcher's father told WBAL.
