Five Questions with SPHS Volleyball’s Lauren Kirchenheiter

Lauren Kirchenheiter is a senior and a captain on the Severna Park High School varsity volleyball team.

Patch stopped by the Severna Park varsity volleyball practice and spoke with senior Lauren Kirchenheiter about her volleyball career, this season’s expectations and her plans for the future.

Severna Park Patch: What are your goals or expectations for this season?
Lauren Kirchenheiter: Well our number one goal is to make it to states and win states. But also to beat the teams that we didn’t in the regular season last year — like South River and Arundel.

Severna Park Patch: What’s one of the key matchups you have this season?
Kirchenheiter: I think Arundel mostly this year because we lost to them three times last year, and we want to prove we can beat them. They lost some of their seniors too, so I think it will be a pretty even matchup and a good game.

Severna Park Patch: What was your favorite volleyball moment or experience at Severna Park?
Kirchenheiter: I think when we beat Broadneck last year. Just to see all our fans there — more than we usually have at least — and everyone storming the court when we won. We were all just so excited.

Severna Park Patch: What advice would you give to an aspiring high school volleyball player?
Kirchenheiter: I’d say don’t focus too hard on becoming the best at your position, particularly. Your skill set can be flexible — that’s best because then you are more vital to the team. You can be used in so many different places.

Severna Park Patch: What are you plans after high school?
Kirchenheiter: I am going to college. I am not sure where yet — somewhere down south. I want to play club volleyball for a bigger school.
