Five Questions with SPHS Field Hockey's Maeve Doherty

Maeve Doherty is a senior on Severna Park High School's varsity field hockey team.

Patch stopped by the Severna Park varsity field hockey practice and spoke with senior Maeve Doherty about her field hockey career, this season’s expectations and her plans for the future. 

Severna Park Patch: What are your goals or expectations for this season?
Maeve Doherty: I think as a team it is definitely to earn every win, and see every game as an opportunity to improve. States is something we would like to achieve, but we have to go one game at a time.

Severna Park Patch: What’s one of the key matchups you have this season?
Doherty: We have a new matchup this season, which is Westfield—the Virginia state champs.

Severna Park Patch: What was your favorite field hockey moment or experience at Severna Park?
Doherty: Personally, it was playing on varsity my sophomore year and winning states.

Severna Park Patch: What advice would you give to an aspiring high school field hockey player? 
Doherty: It definitely starts with just work ethic, and you have to really work on basics before you can develop anything else.

Doherty: I will be playing field hockey at Columbia University.
