Falcon Playoff Update: Field Hockey Wins, Volleyball Begins

Severna Park teams are all facing key games as the playoffs heat up.

The high school sports season is entering its most exciting stretch, as football winds down its regular season and other teams are neck-deep in the state playoffs.

Here's an update on Severna Park teams' performance in the past few days, as well as a look ahead to upcoming playoff matchups.

Volleyball

The MPSSAA announced the draws for the state volleyball tournament on Monday afternoon. Severna Park earned a No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Old Mill on Thursday.

The Falcons finished the regular season with a 12-2 overall record and a 9-2 record in conference play. Severna Park faced Old Mill on Oct. 1, and came away with a three-game sweep.

Field Hockey

Severna Park field hockey advanced to the regional championship game Monday night with a 1-0 victory over Arundel. The No. 1 Falcons will host rival Broadneck Wednesday night. In a surprise upset, No. 4 Broadneck topped defending state champions South River Monday night 2-1.

Boys Soccer:

After receiving a first-round bye, the No. 1 Falcon boys soccer team enters playoff action Tuesday night when the team hosts No. 5 Glen Burnie. Severna Park is fresh off a county championship victory, and is poised to make another postseason run.

Girls Soccer:

The Severna Park girls soccer team defeated Meade 2-1 in the first round of the state playoffs, and will now host Old Mill Tuesday night at 5 p.m.

Football:

The Falcon football team still has two games remaining in the regular season. At 4-4, they will not be playoff-bound but could secure a winning record.  Severna Park will host Northeast on Friday night, and finish the season on Nov. 8 at Old Mill.
