8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning finds most of us at home preparing for a day of food and football, but for more than 7,000 runners, 8:30 a.m. means it's time to run.
Since the first race in 1982, Turkey Chase has developed a bevy of followers that look forward to this event arranged by YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club. The annual fundraising event celebrates the Y's commitment to healthy living and for many local families it provides a yearly opportunity to contribute to their active lifestyle with the added bonus of providing them with the opportunity to give back to the community.
In a struggling economy, people rely on the Y more than ever to provide much needed services such as childcare, academic enrichment and childcare. Turkey Chase is an integral part of making sure that the Y can continue to provide these and many other services to the community. With three races under the Turkey Chase umbrella including the USATF Certified 10K, the 2 Mile Fun Run and the 50 Meter Tot-Trot, this intergenerational event provides a yearly tradition steeped in charity.
