Dominant Falcons Top Old Mill

Senior Joe Galdi and sophomore Brendan Steele each scored five goals propelling the Severna Park boys lacrosse team past Old Mill, 15-3, on Friday. The Falcons used a nine-goal second quarter to separate themselves from the Patriots, and never looked back.

Severna Park jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to two goals from Galdi and one from Steele in a 1:18 sequence midway through the first quarter. A two-goal response by the visiting Patriots and another tally from Steele saw the Falcons finish the quarter with a 4-2 advantage.

"We came into this game knowing that we needed to win and get back on track," Galdi said. "I think we came out well prepared, with good energy and hustle."

It was all down hill from there for Old Mill.

"[The] second quarter killed us," Old Mill coach Steve Spence said. "Our middie defense killed us. Our D middies got scored on left and right"

The Falcons connected on nine goals in the quarter, blowing the game wide open. Senior Kenny Stryker scored less than a minute into the quarter as the flood gates opened. Galdi would add three more goals in the quarter, as Severna Park took a 13-2 lead into the half.

"Our midfield just ran them into the ground," Severna Park coach Larry Kramer said. "That was pretty much our goal for tonight, to run hard and finish our shots."

Kramer began to rest some bodies and rotate more players in during the final two quarters, though that didn't seem to slow Steele. The talented sophomore scored at the 10:45 and 1:00 mark in the quarter.

A young and resilient Patriot squad would battle to the end, netting a third and final goal two minutes into the fourth. Severna Park won the game 15-3.

Severna Parks high scoring rate is a good sign for a Falcons squad that squares against Arundel High next week. The Tuesday night match-up will likely determine the countys lacrosse champion and heavily influence seedings for the Maryland state tournament.

"I'm real excited. I think we're definitely prepared, we've been working hard these past couple of weeks and we're ready," Galdi said in anticipation of the Arundel game.

Lady Falcons Thrash Old Mill, 19-0, To Remain Undefeated

The Severna Park girls lacrosse team remains a top the Anne Arundel County standings after a dominating effort against Old Mill on Friday. The Lady Falcons (8-0) cruised to a 19-o victory, Kendyl Gardner and Ally Adams led the way with four goals a piece.

Eight different players scored for Severna Park in the one-sided match-up. Madison Thomas and Ryan Bathras each added three goals in the triumph.

"The passing looked really good, especially through our transition," Severna Park coach Carin Peterson said. "And our defense was phenomenal, I don't even think in the first half they got off a shot."

Gardner opened the scoring at the 21:35 mark and then double the scored in ten seconds. The Lady Patriots had no answers for Severna Park, who led 12-0 after one half of play.

The start of the second half mimiced the first, as Gardner initiated the scoring. Adams would then tally twice, for her third and fourth goals of the game.

The Lady Falcons entered the game having been beaten twice over the Easter break by a pair of private school teams. But Peterson's squad managed to put the losses behind them and deliver a great result.

"You always worry about that," Peterson said about her teams ability to shake off a pair of losses from last week.

Life doesn't get easier for the Lady Falcons, who face North County on Saturday, St. Mary's of Annapolis on Monday and Arundel on Tuesday.

"Keep us on our toes," Peteson said about the teams end-of-season schedule.
