County Champs: SPHS Cross Country Team

(SPHS) Cross Country team, are county champions and proud of it- Sam Pershall, a junior at SPHS, finished the course at Arundel High School in 16 minutes,12 seconds and helped propel the Falcons to a 32-63 victory over Chesapeake. The next finisher was Severna Park’s Ryan Forsyth with a time of 16:46.

“It was an amazing feeling to see everyone’s hard work pay off in unison. I am so grateful to my teamates and coaches because their hard work and dedication, I know that neither I nor the team would be performing at the level we are,” said Sam Pershall, Anne Arundel County Cross Country champion. Sam was named Athlete of the Week on HometownAnnapolis.com on Nov. 1.

Fellow Cross Country champion Ashley Hayes, a senior, received an Honorable Mention on HometownAnnapolis.com for leading the lady Falcons in winning the county title by finishing the course in 19:59- two seconds ahead of teammate Michelle Nelson. Hayes was credited for helping the Falcons capture its third consecutive title and 19th in 23 years.

The SPHS Varsity Head Girls Coach is Ed Purpura and the Varsity Head Boys Coach is Josh Alcombright.
