In AACO league play last night the 1-1 Chesapeake Cougars took on the 1-1 Severna Park Falcons. Chesapeake was coming off a massive defeat of North County 59-0 and the Falcons earned their first victory of 2013 with a impressive win over Southern.
The Cougars struck first on a 2nd quarter TD (Failed XP attempt) to lead 6-0. The Falcons continued to move the ball well and with 7 seconds left in the half on a Kitzmiller pass for TD to go ahead 7-6 at the half.
The second half saw both teams trading touchdowns and with the Falcons up 14-6, Chesapeake scored and converted a 2-pt conversion. Tying up the game. Tied up at 21, Severna Park methodically moved the ball from their 35 down to the Chesapeake 5 yard line with less than 28 seconds remaining in the game. The snap from Kitzmiller and handoff to #24 Jenkins was bobbled and the fumble was recovered by the Cougars. Heading to Overtime.
3 plays, for the Falcons and Kitzmiller handoff to Jenkins put the Falcons up 28-21. The ensuing Offensive series for the Cougars started their crack in overtime. Mishandled shotgun snap by the Chesapeake QB, was bobbled and fumbled and ended up losing 9-yards. Although the recovery by the Falcon defense was nullified by very poor officiating . The next play a 19-yard strike by the Cougars QB put the game at 28-27 with only the extra point hanging in the balance. The Cougars quickly lined up for what appeared to be a 1-pt conversion, then suddenly snapped the ball and the QB rolled out left, (Cougar HC jumped on the field while the play was going on to call timeout) Cougar QB was stopped at the 2 yard line and a failed 2-pt conversion. Sealing the Falcon victory!
3 impressive runs by #24 Kieran Jenkins for TD were all called back by penalties. This Anne Arundel County Officiating crew needs to be reviewed as the game without a doubt was the worst officiated game this Blogger has ever seen.
