6th Graders Break AHA Record

AHA Fundraiser Breaks Record

For 13 years now, Severn School has been a proud sponsor of the American Heart Association, hosting either a Jump Rope or Hoops for Heart event each year.

This year, Severn 6th graders collected $5,548, the single most of any AHA event at the school.

Prior to this year, Severn’s grand total for all 13 years was just over $12,000 for the AHA.

"Our PE Department hosts AHA events as part of our education to promote physical activity, good nutrition choices, and an overall healthy lifestyle for our students," said Michelle Anderson, one of Severn's certified trainers and Middle School PE teacher. "We are part of a small population of schools in the state, and the nation for that matter, that have PE incorporated into EVERY school day!"

The two top fund-raisers of the 2013-14 American Heart Association Hoops For Heart event are Sophie Sowden '20 bringing in $1,000, and Brooke Arnold '20 with $500.

"We thank all who donated, but especially our 6th grade class for the amazing energy that they have every day, not just with this event," concluded Ms. Anderson.
