SPHS Girls, Boys Swim Teams Win Regional Title

Despite falling to Annapolis in the county competition, the Severna Park High girls swim team came in first at regionals on Saturday.

The Severna Park High School girls and boys swim teams both took first place at the regional competition on Saturday in Annapolis.

The boys topped Broadneck 331-292. And the girls team defeated Annapolis, who topped them in the county competition, 296-289.

Here's a look at the teams top performers, according to head coach Mike McTammany.

Boys:

  • Bennett Bean (First in 100 freestyle, Second in 200 freestyle)
  • Kevin Huntley (Second in 200 IM and 100 breaststroke)
  • Sam Fuller (Third in 100 backstroke, Fourth in 200 freestyle)
  • Matthew Praley (Fourth in 100 backstroke)
  • John Bachkosky (Fourth in 100 freestyle)

Girls

  • Maggie Byrne (First in 100 breaststroke, Fifth in 100 freestyle)
  • Katie Harmon (Third in 200 IM and 100 fly)
  • Lauren Belloff (Fourth in 200 freestyle and 100 fly)
  • Kiera Murphy (Third in 100 backstroke)

The boys relay team placed first in the 200-meter medley relay and the 400-meter freestyle relay. The girls relay team placed second in the 200-meter medley and third in the 200-meter freestyle.

Both the girls and boys swim teams will compete in the state competition on Saturday at the University of Maryland in College Park.
