Severn School Receives $2 Million Endowment Grant

The private Severna Park school is recognized with a grant from the Malone Family Foundation.

in Severna Park is the recipient of a $2 million endowment grant from the Malone Family Foundation to provide scholarships for gifted students with financial need.  

The Malone Family Foundation invites select schools to apply for this endowment. After an initial screening process, Severn was selected to enter the semifinalist stage of the grant-making process, according to a Severn School news announcement.

A representative from the Malone Foundation visited the school in April. The school was notified of the grant on May 11.

The goal of the Malone Family Foundation is to provide an outstanding education to every young student who is among the top 5 percent of his or her class. They also want to provide to those who display the keen desire and motivation to learn, yet lack the resources to finance such an education.

In the news announcement, Doug Lagarde, headmaster at Severn, made this statement:

“This is truly transformational for the entire Severn community,” said Lagarde. “To be selected for this grant is an honor, and a challenge. We are excited at the prospect of bringing a Severn education to exceptional students in Anne Arundel County who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to attend our school."  

Added Lagarde, “The mission of the Malone Family Foundation and Severn School are closely aligned—making this a wonderful partnership.”
