Police Call School Shooting Threats Unfounded

Severna Park High School underwent an emergency drill Tuesday that dealt with an armed intruder in the building.

Police said at a news conference Wednesday that rumors spreading on social media of planned school shootings on Friday have all been investigated and found to be not credible.

Lt. J.D. Batten, who is in charge of school security for Anne Arundel County, said some shooting rumors have come from students saying they heard it from others. The media conference was held Wednesday morning at the central office of Anne Arundel County Public Schools to address the rumors at multiple schools.

On Tuesday, students at Severna Park High School underwent an emergency drill that focused on an armed intruder in the building. However, the drill was scheduled weeks ago and was unrelated to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
