One-Act Plays at Severna Park High School

The SPHS Stage Company will put on six plays with awards on Tuesday.

The  (SPHS) Stage Company will entertain visitors at the annual One Act Night on Tuesday (Jan. 10) beginning at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Six short plays are set to be performed by SPHS students. 

At the end of the night, the performances will be judged and awards will be given in the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Play, according to a news announcement.

"What sets One Act Night apart from other Severna Park drama productions is the fact that every aspect of each play is student run," SPHS drama student Michelle Alfini wrote in an email to Patch.

"The student directors chose their plays, held auditions to choose their casts, gathered costumes, props and sets, scheduled rehearsals along with directing the one-act plays," she said.

Two students, junior Elyza Halpern and senior Jake Lebowitz, wrote their own plays, while the other directors, Katie McCartney, Jessie Gentile, Taylor Simmons and Taylor Sabol, purchased the rights to their plays, according to the news announcement.

Admission to One Act Night is $5. The Severna Park Thespian Troupe will also be collecting donations to the  of Severna Park, a nonprofit center serving special needs children.
