More than 2,000 to Graduate from AACC Thursday

The ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. Thursday night at the community college.

Anne Arundel Community College's 51st commencement will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, with gubernatorial candidate Anthony Brown as the keynote speaker.

This year's valedictorian is Michelle DeSanctis, 30, of Bowie, who is graduating with an associate of arts degree in transfer studies. She will attend the University of Maryland in College Park in the fall, where she plans to be a teacher.

The presidential scholar is William Patrick Moynihan, 25, of Arnold. The scholar is the student with the highest grade-point-average who earned his degree within a two-year period.

Student marshals include:

  • Amy Michelle Avergas of Millersville
  • Roni M. Coleman of Pasadena
  • Yoeldi Irizarry of Odenton
  • Marcelle Y. Lee, of Severna Park
  • Hanna Mukhina of Annapolis
  • Bradley Pfeffer of Glen Burnie
  • Valeree A. Tolios of Severn
  • Michelle L. Triplett of Glen Burnie
  • Peter B, Veres of Odenton

A total of 2,083 students are scheduled to receive degrees and certificates for their academic achievement during this year's graduation.

Of these graduates, 159 will leave the community college having earned summar cum laude honors, achieving a grade point average of 3.8 to 4.0; 159 associate degree recipients achieving magna cum laude honors, with a grade point average of 3.6 to 3.79; and 228 associate degree recipients achieving cum laude honors with a grade point average of 3.4 to 3.59, according to a release.
