First Day at Jones Elementary School

Excitement is in the air as students get ready for another year

A large crowd of students gathered in front of Jones Elementary School Tuesday morning waiting for the starting bell to ring. Excited  friends talked about their new teachers and classmates, being back at school, and what they did during the summer.

Administrators were on hand to help children off of buses and answer any questions to erase uncertainties. Principal Sara Pickens stood among the students, greeting them with smiles, "hellos" and hugs.

"We are not allowing for parents to walk their children to class this year," shared Pickens. "It just takes one person disguised as a parent for something bad to happen."

This is a change in policy from years past. However, once everyone got inside and settled, parents were then allowed to enter as long as they were in the system.
